W9x Client p/w problem in Win2k Domain

by pc101 . Updated 24 years ago

The problem I am having is with the 9x clients (DSClient installed) in a windows 2000 domain.

If a users password expires in the domain, win9x will request a new network password as expected but when the new password is typed and confirmed
in the “change password” dialogue box an error appears on the screen stating “Cannot change the password for Microsoft Networking. Access is
denied”

This same user can log onto a windows 2000 system and it will let them change the password so the problem is with windows 9x clients only and
with any user name. (i.e. its not specific to a user or a single computer)

Also I have no problem changing a users password from a command prompt on the Windows 9x machines.

An error 537 is logged on theserver and according to event ID this is a netlogon related error. (I have performed a couple of nltest tests on both DC’s and netlogon on the servers seem ok i.e. The Netlogon Service is running on both DC’s and the secure channel between both DC’sseems fine. Maybe there is something else I should check here?

One problem I’ve noticed recently (which may or may not be related) is that users of win9x clients are being locked out from the network for no reason. Mostly this occurs when the users is attempting to log on but there has been a few instances where a users account will become locked out while the user is logged on! Again I’m not sure if these problems are related.

Any ideas

Thanks
