Wake up!

By rpr ·
Why does Windows XP when going into standby/sleep mode refuse to wake up every now and then? Have to power down and wait because my computer refuses to come on after this happens for about 15 minutes.

Sounds like you need to see if your BIOS needs updating...Check to see if that system board has a BIOS update avail. and then go download it and look @ the Read Me file to see if that is one of the issues dealt w/ in the updated BIOS flash.

If you have not ever done a flashing of a BIOS ROM chip get help, watch a tech do it that will explain how it is done properly....If not done properly, you could end up sending the chip or entire board in to the manufacturer for a re-flashing. Look for ACPI issues corrected in that Read Me. If you had included more detail about the system like model # of the Mobo & BIOS version # (will flash on the screen @ the very beginning of the boot process), I would have looked for you. (Mine looks like this using the Belarc Advisor; BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG 09/21/2001)

Another good way to find out is to download a Belarc advisor from, install & launch and it inventories your computer for you.

You really do not want to flash the BIOS ROM chip on the board unless it will fix an issue that you are facing. But if it will, then you really should.
