WAN Miniport

O.K., here it is..
A user called my today and explained that after she had somebody out trying to fix a printer sharing issue at her office that she couldn't get online anymore(printer share was never accomplished by the way). She has an HP Pavilion 8756c, running windows 2000 Pro. The problem is that she cannot negotiate a connection with any ISP, We used DailUp Networking, AOL, and Hyperterminal, in all instances, I heard the modem dial, heard it communicating with the other end, then about 30 seconds of static.. then either got a 'could not negatiate' message, or 'no dial tone' I noticed that in Device Manager there are two WAN Miniport(IP) #2 and WAN Miniport(IP) #3 devices listed under Network Adapters with the yellow exclamation's. I could not removed them, I tried re-installing 2000, I tried to isolate where they came from and what they are related to, but nothing I tried helped! I got online and couldn't find any info. The drivers for these devices is ndiswan.sys, which I replaced to no avail. I'm at a complete loss! If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, it would be GREATLY appreciated, and rewarded..with points ofcourse!
Thanks in advance

If you used the unattended (-u switch) or quite mode (-q switch) to install the service pack, but did not include the -o switch, your miniport drivers were not updated by the service pack. See the Service Pack Readme file for details. What ServicePack is loaded on the HP? Are others able to use the miniports?

No service packs are currently loaded, I am going back down this morning to load SP2. Do you think will fix the problem? Do I need to worry about any switches???

By-the-way, these wan miniports are built-in devices, anyone with win2k can view them in device manager, view hidden devices..look under network adapters

Service Packs are often quick fixes for workstation type issues. You can install SP2 from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com or use the Express Install option from the SP2 download page at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp2/default.asp
Click on Download Windows 2000 SP2, choose a language, click Next, then click on Express Installation.
