Was Web- based training all hype?

By jmottl ·
If you had your choice, what training approach would you use--traditional classroom, web-based, computer focused (CDs) or self study. There was so much hype a few years back on internet-based approaches and using intranets for training hubs, I'm real curious how they all panned out,

Keep it short and sweat

I think that web based training is good when you have something like a placeware conference with a live person leading people through a guided tour.

The training sessions should not last for more than an hour if possible, to keep people's attention.

The training should be planned and somewhat scripted and focused on getting a few key point covered.

It is not useful for something like new hire training, that should really be done in person (if a group setting) if you have enough people to train.

CD training is good is someone has somewhat working knowledge of the course material. With Cd training, the student can not ask questions if they need more clarification on something.
