Web 2.0 bubble

I have to confess, I’m not buying in to all this Web 2.0 hype. Time magazine says “The person of the year is YOU”???? I don’t get it.

What’s the difference between a blog and the old geocities or aol homepages we used to have? Same idea, new software?

What’s the big deal about YouTube? How many vidoes of cats chasing flashlight beams can you watch?

Is all this stuff REALLY new? Or is it just the same old stuff we loved about the Internet 10 years ago before it got ruined by commercialism and spam?

Once again, business is looking to monetize blogs and wikis and video and tagging folksonomies.

What’s different this time around?
