Web console

By qmd61 ·
I have a small Network include 1 server running Small Business 2000 and 20 WST (XT,2000,9. All computer and Server connect to internet through a Router with NAT enable. Server doesn't have proxy or firewall, server have only DHCP and DNS installed.

I would like to use web console through internet connection to admin my server from home so I could save my trip.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. Does any software could help me do it (PCanywhere, Laplink...) web console using TCP/IP.

Since you have SBS2K, just enable Terminal Services, and connect that way. If you want full administrative ability of the server, then TS is what you need. It comes standard with 2K.
Set it up in Remote Administration mode. Just make sure your server has very tight password policies, since anyone could connect to the TS and try and log in.
And here is a link to a white paper on setting up TS in Remote Admin mode:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/administration/terminal/tsremote.asp
(please remove any spaces)

hope this helps

PS: there is also an ActiveX component to TS you can download and run, that enables TS client functionality in a web page. The white paper probably mentions that also.

Yes, I could use TS inside the LAN by typing: "http://<server nmae>/Myconsole" but I could not access it from WAN because I have NAT on the Router and I don't know to get around it. The white page that I read does not show me. Do you know how to connect it through the Router with NAT. Thank you for your anwsers.
