A good database design has to satisfy the three normal forms as following:

1)No data item / record must be repeated and see that all the records are of fixed length i.e., each and every tuple must contain the same number of columns / fields.2)1st normal form must be satisfied and the data items in a record / tuple should depend on a unique identifier / primary key such that that particular identifier helps in locating the relevant data contained in that particular tuple.

3)2nd normal form must be satisfied and transitive dependency between the data stored must be avoided .
