Hi,

Just a thought:

In ie5.5 , goto menu bar, tools, Internet options, select Advanced tab, go down to Multimedia and make sure that the "Show Pictures" is checked in the box.

Cheers
George

You may want to go to I.E. Tools, Internet Options, Security, Internet and it is most likely set to default of MEDIUM. You might have to reconfigure. Set all the ACTIVE X to ENABLE. Set MS VMACHINE to medium, enable all scripting. Also make sure COOKIES are enabled. Hope this helps.

tried all even shut down zone alarm & adsubtract, problem still there.two web sites I tested on were soundblaster.com,futureshop.com . Also right clicking on buttons & pics + show picture will make the display features appear.I'm going to try "Bugnosis web bug detector" later in the week, it's not a fix but it will show me if these sites are using web bugs "clear GIFs,invisible GIFs,beacon GIFs".You might want to check it out also at www.bugnosis.org/

Shell Integration Not Enabled after Installing Internet Explorer

This problem occurs when you install a different language version of Internet Explorer than the version of Windows 95 or Windows 95 OEM Service Release that is installed on your computer. For example, this behavior occurs if you install the English version of Internet Explorer on a computer that is running a non-English version of Windows 95. Shell Integration mode is not supported when you are running different language versions of Internet Explorer and Windows 95 or OEM Service Release.

RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, uninstall Internet Explorer 4.0, and then install the same language version of InternetExplorer 4.0 as the version of Windows 95 or OEM Service Release that is installed on your computer. For information about installing Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/ie/ie40/
For information about uninstalling Internet Explorer, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q170757 Uninstalling Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2.0
If the necessary language version of Internet Explorer is not available, you can use the Internet Explorer browser and Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and content delivery features, but you cannot use Shell Integration mode.

hope this helps.

This is the sympton of the above mentioned answer:

After you install Internet Explorer with Shell Integration, Shell Integration mode may be disabled. As a result, you may notice that no Web sites or pictures are displayed on your desktop and that the Desktop tab does not appear in the Display Properties dialog box. In addition, "Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 - Shell Integration Mode" may not appear in the list of installed programs on the Install/Uninstall tab in the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box. Therefore, you cannot enable Shell Integration mode after Internet Explorer is installed.

I've never had IE4.0 installed, sys was built 30/10/00 installed IE5.0 & WinME on new hard drive(maxtor),asus motherboard, video & sound cards.I'm able to view everything accept web pages that contain GIFs,but I still see 90% of whats on those pages. It's just really annoying refreshing & right clicking all the time.My real problem is when I,m online banking & such I end up getting page cannot be displayed when placing orders. It has to be GIF related but knowones been able to help short of reformating hard drive.which won't help if it's a program problem,it'll come right back when i reload everything,so thats not an option yet.

Thank you Deja Vu,it wasn't the right article but so close you could smell it.The right one was Q283807
It still didn't provide a fix. The symptoms are dead on,it is GIF related.
I left enough notes to microsoft while I was there I'm sure I'll get a tech support response from then.
I used thier new SEARCH WIZARD to find that article ,choose EXPLORER 5.5 in search box & it listed 86 articles yours included.
Anyway your 350pts richer.
You got me there.
