Web Search Engine Result Malfunctions

Recently, whenever I use Google or MSN to search for Web pages using both Win IE or Firefox browsers, I get excellent results returned. However, when I click on one of the search results, my Browser gets re-directed to strange pages that are often related in subject, but not the specified web page address. I’ve discovered that I can only access the correct search result page on the third click attempt and this appears to be consistent. A search using Alta Vista does not yield this problem as often.

I suspect my PC has become infected with some type of malware program, but I cannot find it and I’ve used every repair tool I can find. I use a HW and SW firewall as well as Spybot’s resident TeaTimer program, but I think something has gotten through and is causing this problem.

Can anyone give me some insight into how I can locate this problem in Windows? Any help is very much appreciated.

Click Start–Run–type “msconfig”–OK-click the Startup tab–uncheck everything except your Spyware, AV and Firewall–Apply and restart the PC.

Then download and run HijackThis http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
