Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would know the pro's and con's of my company hosting a website(in-house) or having a out source host our website. W/someone in house making the changes in either case.Any help would be appreciated.

If you bring the hosting in-house you have the following advantages and disadvantages:

Establish a secure network apart from your existing intranet so that if your web server is compromised, your intranet will not also be compromised.

Establish a firewall and router to prevent the above problem and provide the necessary protection from port scanning and other hacker exploits.

Obviously by bringing it in-house you will gain the control over your server allowing much required flexibility and also save cost assuming you have the expertise.

There really are no considerations between out-sourcing and in-house if you are just maintaining content, but if you are programming applications then having an in-house server is much more desired for the control.

There are several questions you need to consider:

Will you be managing the email along with the website in-house?

Do I have the expertise to establish a secure web server and the resources to maintain it?

Do I have the bandwidth to handle traffic on my web server?
