WebSphere and Directory Index

By GerhardC ·
Hello,

we are using WebSphere 4.0.5 with Apache 1.3.29.

In Apaches httpd.conf, I use the config-option
Options -Indexes
which prevent a listing of the files in a directory
on the server.

With a Web Application which has the path eg.
http://server:port/app/jsp/login.jsp

when I point the browser to
http://server:port/app
the browser displays the contents of that
directory. I guess that WebSphere generate
the directory listing. I could not find an
option to turn this behavior off.

Does anyone know how to do or have a hint for the
right google question?

Thanks in Advance.

Regards, Gerhard

There is an IBM extension to the web module deployment descriptors.
ibm-web-ext.xmi is generated by RAD or MyEclipse or the AST, but you can edit it with emacs, vi or textpad.
fileServingEnabled="false"
directoryBrowsingEnabled="false"
These settings in that file will influence whether or not the application will serve static content from WebSphere Application Server, and whether or not it will give directory listings.
It is not recommended to set either to true
