My biweekly weblog: For starters

by swgoldwire2546 In reply to Weekly Technology Weblogs

I am new to starting a weblog about all things technology and the implementation of that technology in everyday life. I am keen into helping myself to learn about computers and their quirks, and how I understand these quirks so as to make resolutions.

My little computer quirk starts out with Microsoft Office.

About three months ago, I did my utmost to download through Microsoft Update the update for Microsoft Outlook regarding the electronic mail filter, only to reap a certain fault, and failed. I even allowed Windows update to try the download three times.

After the failed download, I uninstalled Microsoft Office Professional 2003 from my computer. After trying to reinstall Microsoft Office I encountered the same error I have received when trying to download the Outlook update, and the whole Microsoft Office program failed to install.

I sought technical support at Microsoft via electronic mail to figure out the problem and to resolve that problem. The Microsoft technical representative did her best to find a resolution to the problem yet without success.

Finally, I started to look to the Windows registry for the resolution. I type down RegEdit to open up the registry in Microsoft Windows XP. I look for registry keys regarding Microsoft Office and Outlook. I deleted certain registry keys that are found regarding Microsoft Office.

After deleting the Microsoft Office registry keys from the registry, I went to the C hard disk drive (I call this hard disk drive in Linuxese eidehda1 to denote the first hard disk drive, first volume) and deleted all files relating to Microsoft Office and Outlook.

After the registry and file alteration, I reinstall Microsoft Office Professional 2003. The reinstallation was a success and eventually I was able to download many updates for Microsoft Office, including Service Pack 2.

What is your take regarding Microsoft Office installation trouble? If anyone of you has some concerned beef (even to the point of hot anger), please feel free to post your comments.

I look forward to your responses soon
