It sounds as if the DHCP server running on your server may have failed. Try stopping and re-starting the DHCP server service.

If it won't re-start, look at the Event Viewer for an error message that might tell you why.

If that doesn't help, you might try re-booting the server. Again, look for error messages from the DHCP server.

I hope this helps.

Normalalien,
Follow these guidelines when setting up a client server environment:
1)Setup a primary domain controller(PDC).
2)Under "server manager" make sure the computer name is present.
3)A valid username on the domain. Create one under "User Manager."
4)If you setup your server as a dhcp server, then configure your clients to "obtain an IP address from the DHCP server."

Goodluck

Have you checked your wiring? There could be a number of issues causing this problem. It could be as simple as a bad connector on a section of wire or a problem with the wire preventing a good connection. Make sure you are getting a link light. Don't overlook the simple things before you take more drastic measures.

I think the first thing I would do is go to a command prompt and type 'ipconfig /all' and see if an IP address is even being assigned (and if so, if it's in the right subnet).

If not, I would try a static IP address in the same subnet as the server and see if I can then ping the server. If so, the connectivity is fine but the DHCP is hosed.

If you still can't ping even with a static IP, I would start looking for a circuit/wiring/NIC failure and probably start by swapping out patch cables, checking link lights, etc.
