There is an external drive used here. At one time something like what you said happened. It turned out it was the file system. the file system of the connected computer was one file system and the external file system was different. For some drives, the file systems must be the same for everything to be seen properly.

The character Mrs. Malaprop first appeared in 1775 in Sheridan's stage play The Rivals.

Malaprop is taken from the French term mal a propos; the French phrase has been in common English usage for over 300 years.

That said, the Scummy One is definitely sui generis, loosely translated from the original Latin as one of a kind, but better defined as a genus comprising only 1 individual...
