Western Digital (WD2500JB) Caviar SE Hard Drive

By stonelovn ·
Can Someone help me please. I recently purchased a Western digital 250GB Hard Drive which I installed in my Desktop PC. The BIOS detects it as 250 GB but when I try to install Windows XP it only comes up as 139.9 GB, I Fdisk the drive and selected large drive but it came out even worst, the bios and windows now only recognise it as 33 GB and I can`t seem to change it, I`ve tried with different Softwares , patches and programs but it remains 33GB. I need a solution please HEEELP!!!

What your problem here is

Is that fact that you are using a DOS Utility to perform the FDISK which has an upper limit on the size that it can make.

So wipe the drive with a wiping utility like Boot & Nuke and then try installing your OS from scratch onto the system. Boot & Nuke is available for download here

If you are using Windows XP you should be able to format it up to it full size in the initial Setup Procedure as a NTFS Drive but not a FAT 32 Partition.

If you are using an older version of Windows you may need a software package to trick the OS into loading the full size of the drive if you do not want to create partitions on it so you can either chose to download WD's Utility or use the one on the Ultimate Boot CD available here

If you don't have the time or Internet Connection Data available you can buy a copy for under $2.00 US from this site or download it from here as well

I hope that is of some help to you.
