My brother in law wants to set up (in MY House!) a….I dont know what to call it.. He wants to host a few vanity web sites, and set up modems to allow family members to use this as their ISP. He is gonna build the web sites, I’ll manage the wholemess.
He is figuring drop a DSL (or do we need fractional T1?), place a router, rack mount a few modems, throw in a server with IIS and we’re up! I figure on a really good UPS as well, just to start.
Seems to me that he has a case of the simples..but I am interested in it from a geek standpoint.
BUT…don’t we need incomming lines for all those modems?
If he does this, can we add phone service? Is that what PBX is? Or do you just plug in digital phones? (could’nt be that simple!!)
I realise that there are software issues to figure out, and liscenses, ect, but those bridges in due time.
Since he is bored, not broke, and footing the bill, just how hard is it to set up this deal? Any sources of info I can pursue?
Thanks.
