What are Best Support Tools ?

By sidehill79 ·
Could you suggest a few free support tools that Administrators find very useful in managing a win2k advanced server, that they would keep in their tool kit?

Hi,

It really depends on what you want to do. I usually go to

www.tucows.com

whenever I need a tool to do something. They've got a great range of free, shareware and demo tools for almost anything you'll need to do.

Happy hunting,
Cheers,
Tim.

I've got more links than I care to type in.

If your goal is free tools only, start out with;www.nonags.com
www.completelyfreesoftware.com
www.bootdisk.com
www.aumha.org
www.annoyances.org

As Tim said, it all depends on what you are trying to do.
Are you looking for trouble-shooting tools?
File maintenence tools?
Performance enhancements?

My personal favorite tools are Norton SystemWorks and Meijenix (OnTrack) Fix-It.

For a W2K environment, you should also consider Executive Software's Disk Keeper.

While not free, Hyena is a tool that my entire team uses daily. It's basically an integrated NT admin kit, arranged a bit like the MMC. www.adkins-resource.com

Another toolkit we use heavily is (no surprises here) the Win2k resource kits (both server and workstation).
