What are people using for open-source product information management

by Karan Gupta . Updated 2 days, 13 hours ago

I’ve been looking into open-source PIM solutions for managing larger product catalogs and was curious what others are using in practice.

A few of the better-known options are Akeneo and Pimcore, but I’ve also come across UnoPIM, which is an open-source PIM built with Laravel.

What caught my attention is that it covers the usual PIM requirements such as attributes, families, variants, categories, channels, locales, product media, imports/exports, APIs and webhooks. It also includes DAM capabilities and integrations for platforms such as Magento, Shopify, and WooCommerce.

For teams considering an open-source PIM, I’m curious what factors matter most:

  • Ease of self-hosting and customization

  • Handling large catalogs

  • API and integration capabilities

  • Product and media management

  • Community and development activity

  • Cloud availability versus running it yourself

Would be interested to hear what other open-source PIMs people have tested and how they compare in real-world use.
