What are these Users?

By dennisbv ·
In my Active directory users there are entrys like these IUSR_LUCY with a description of Built-in account for anonymous access to Internet Information Services out of process applications.
What are these and can I remove them?

The IUSR_machine default account is a member of a group other than Guest.

Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) creates and uses this account for unauthenticated users. This user should not be in any other groups than Guest. If IIS is installed onto a primary or backup domain controller, this user will be part of the Domain Users group, which allows this user too much access to system files and resources

The account IUSR_LUCY is created when Internet Information Services (IIS) are installed. LUCY is the machine name that running IIS. Never delete a built-in account. Disable it if you think you don't need it. Uninstall IIS if you don't need it and the associated built-in accounts should go away at that point.

A simple stategy.....

have you visited www.yahoo.com

does it require password

now if you are using iis
and the windows nt and 2k dosent allow the anonymous access ... so how could you access the web site anonymously...

so thats why these accounts were made through which you log in to the web server

okkkkk

Let me add that we are not running any web servers. We add an intranet, but that would only be for authenticated users. These are the only Users that should have any access, to anything on the network. In my situtation would I need these?
