what can i do?

Well, it's not a "one or the other" proposition. XML is not a programming language; it's a markup language. You cannot write a program with XML. What you can do is use XML as a format in which to store or manipulate data in a program you do write.

If you know HTML, XML is a very short jump (at least on the surface of things). If not, it's not the most difficult thing in the world to learn. However, I would start by learning a programming language first (like Java, but I suggest learningin something non-OO like C, then adding on the OO concepts - others may disagree).

If you want some simple programming projects to work on, check out the websites of computer science departments at colleges and universities. Many have the syllabi for classes online along with information like project assignments. That's where I've found the best learning-oriented projects.

Good luck.
