what can i do if chkdsk doesn’t work on external hard disk

I try to install a game on my pc….The game automatically try to install in my external hard disk….I stop it but after that my external hard disk not open…not even laoding….i try the chkdsk command but not even do something….when unplugged my external hard disk cmd write “cannot open volume for direct access….

Sorry for the long message, but I was trying to give a clear explanation of my problem!
