What can I expect when upgrading from Vista to Windows7?

I need to make this a smooth transaction as possible.I already have made a full backup.I believe I have the recovery disks for this Dell Inspirion laptop (just incase it goes wrong).

The switch from Vista to 7 is a pretty straight forward step. Unless you have a 32 Bit version of Vista and are looking at installing a 64 Bit Version of 7 or the other way around then you should do a new clean install.

But no matter what you should wipe the HDD that has Vista on it and install 7 to a clean drive.

Only real thing to check is Compatibility Issues with your Hardware with the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser available from M$ here free

Especially in lieu of the fact that you can backup your data and then reinstall your apps on the new installation far quicker than allowing the Vista Installation to be upgraded by Win 7.
