Hi,
As the title states the ‘what would you like Windows to do?’ popup is no longer working when cameras, dongles etc are inserted into the USB ports. The OS is XP Home which was originally SP1a but now sp2. I recently cleaned a number of viruses off the machine which involved modifying the registry.
I have played around with the autorun options which does not resolve the problem.
I saw a post on another forum which involved removing the placeholders from the registry location HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1644491937-1606980848-1343024091-10\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\UserChosenExecuteHandlers. This location does not exist on the machine I am working on although HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3710749482-4266964319-4034337379-1006\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\UserChosenExecuteHandlers does exist. I have a memory stick plugged in which is assigned the drive letter F:. Now in the registry entry mentioned above there is the entry H:\\?\STORAGE#RemovableMedia#7&2cd678fc&0&RM#{53f5630d-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}+PlayMusicFilesOnArrival with the value ‘MSOpenFolder’. Note the H:?
I have assigned the dongle the drive letter H: through disk management but this has not helped.
Any ideas.
Many thanks,
Chris
