What external drive can I use with Vista??

By ashleysdoodles ·
I am looking for an external drive but the ones I have seen so far don't mention Vista in their compatable systems. Is there a brand that works or will they all work regardless of what they have listed? Thank you so much for any advice!!

It shouldn't matter as long as the external drive is connected via USB

or firewire. The external drive enclosure will hide the fact that the drive is an IDE and will advertise it as an external USB storage device. I don't see why there should be any compatibility issues.

Any USB/Firewire Drive will work with Vista.

All you need do is plug in and Vista will find the New Hardware and install the required Drivers. The only possible thing that may be required is that you may need to Format the Drive if you buy a USB/Firewire Enclosure and fit a HDD to that. Or if you get a old product it may require Formatting to be readable under Vista.

The external Drives in either a USB or Firewire Enclosure can be as big as you like as BIOS doesn't map these drives the OS does this so you Do Not have a size restriction here as you do in BIOS.
