I am currently writing a new Disaster Recovery plan for my organisation and the thought occurred to me “What if our backup site was taken out as well?”. I’m not talking about a huge disaster ( I’m in Australia so earthquakes;
tornadoes etc are unlikely) but say for example that our primary site is affected by fire and we move to our backup site. This site is then taken out by a fibre optic cable being dug up accidentally or vandals breaking in and destroying equipment.I suppose what I’m talking about is two different and non-simultaneous events happening. I first mentioned this to a manager (both sites going offline)and he only thought of one event affecting both sites. He hadn’t thought of this scenario. Has anyone had experience in this matter? I know the chances of its happening are remote but then if you played the odds, you wouldn’t have any DR Plan in the first place! Thanks and greetings from Down Under.
