What is a Winsock Layer

By SUGARSNAP ·
I have a scanner that should be able to be updated. When I try to use the url I get a message saying that I need a configured windsock
layer to use the link. Since I'm not sure what this means, I certainly can configure one.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Sugarsnap

winsock is an application program interface [API]for TCP/IP stack [how browsers use TCP/IP to communicate]. If you have a winsock error chances are there are some corrupt registry settings [usually brought upon by deleting a software firewall or some spyware ] The trial version of PC Rescue ought to fix the corrupt registry entries that are causing the Winsock error. http://www.healthycomputerclub.com/Software/PCRescue/downloadpage/instructions.html

In would just use winskfix if there are winsock issues:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html

or

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/
WinSockFix.shtml

(Copy the last one if it wraps on 2 lines)

The question is are you have any issues just normally browsing
the net? If winsock is corrupt then using any winsock feature/
application will fail. Meaning you might be able to ping a web
site, but not browse to it. If other sites are working then winsock
is not the issue and it would then help to have the exact quote
on the error.

Good Luck,

razz

try removing tcpip from network & then reinstoll it
if y have windows files try with sfc /scannow in command prompt
or
find winsock.dll file in windows directory
rename it & extract that .dll file from win98 cab file

Although WinsockFix.exe will reset your sockets, it may not cure your specific problem. I use WinsockFix often and it is a great little utility.

Scanner driver/software may have installed a custom socket layer that has been removed or corrupted. If that is the case, you need to reinstall sacnner software/drivers.
