What is cloud computing?

I have been getting all this information on cloud computing in emails from Techrepublic for months. A couple of major essential pieces of information elude me.

1) What is cloud computing?
2) What can I do with it in the enterprise and at home?

Besides those two major questions, How do our end users on the network use it?

Basically, it's IT systems hosted in the internet. Basically your whole world could be online. If you choose to trust ISPs with your life, of course - which I don't.

According to the official NIST definition, "cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction."
