What is mmtask?

By darlenem ·
After uninstalling IE 6.0 and reinstalling IE5.5 I now have a problem with Windows locking up when trying to open any program. Task Manager shows mmtask (not responding). What is mmtask and what part does it play in Windows?

MMTASK- Is a 6k byte binary file that supports multimedia and other backgroung processes
the problem can be caused by outdated sound drivers
Try locating by using Find,Files or Folders and try reinstallign the file from the operating system disk.

To resolve this issue in Windows 98, use the Microsoft System File Checker tool to restore the following original Windows 98 files: Msacm.drv Msacm.dll

The mmtask is music match jukebox and it is easy to fix it from loading with windows. All you have to do is open music match jukebox, then click options, and settings and then uncheck "enable music match quickplay in the system tray." Click apply and ok. This should get rid of the mmtask running.
