what is T3/DS3

by rawright In reply to what is T3/DS3

DS3 or T3 describe a communications channel that supports a data rate of 44.736 Mbps, or 672 64Kbps channels. This is equivalent to 28 T1 lines. In the North American Digital Carrier system (T-Carrier) the levels are :

DS0 - 64 Kbps
DS1 - 1.544 Mbps
DS2 - 6.312 <bps
DS3 - 44.736 Mbps
DS4 - 274.176 Mbps

These services are generally channelized, and services are purchased as groups of channels to obtain the needed bandwidth, each channel being a DS0 (or T1) 64 Kbps chunk.
