What is that .inf file? (W95)

by blackcurrant . Updated 24 years, 10 months ago

I need to reinstall W95. While gathering info about the settings etc, I found that the driver for the video adaptor is not on the original OS installation disk. I can see which driver files are used by the system in the Display/settings/advanced/adaptor box, but it dawned on me that when installing a driver Windows normally asks for an .inf file, the name of which is not displayed. Is there any way I can find out what the name of the inf file is, so I can copy it to floppy? The present OS was copied to the hard drive, then installed from the hard drive. I need to reinstall it from the CD to free disk space.

Therefore, I will be formatting the drive before installing the OS, so obviously this info will be lost. I know I can visit driverguide and the manufacturers’ web site for a driver but I was wondering if it is possible to determine the inf file name, which presumably resides on the drive, without recourse to the web.

Any help would be appreciated…

Thanking you in advance

Mark
