What is the alternative way to run AVG9 Free in Windows 2000 Safe Mode?

I boot my Windows 2000 into Safe Mode and double clicked the AVG icon as directed on MS’ and AVG’s FAQ. AVG9 Free won’t start in safe mode, I even tried running it through cmd but nothing happens.
