what is the best way for source control?

By ohJani ·
if few progrmmers are working with a same VB6 project at the same time, what is the best practice to protect the source in order not to be over-written?

Something like SourceSafe or an open CVS application both seem like obvious answers...

Hi,

If one file was been access at the same time to protect the source is to have a backup and both of them start on a saveas file basis then combined the updated codes later after the finished product. Hope this make sense.

You can alway saveas a form or a code with a different name.

Cheers,

haven't tried sourcesafe, but Jay is right, cvs allows multiple operators to edit same file and update in cvs tree. it tracks and merges code automatically, keeping the canged sections, unless one change affects the second, then the last applied gets an error and the cause is highlighted.

cvs is control version software.

it just tracks changes to the sourcecode so that you can roll back if you need to.
