What is the best Windows OS?

By jeremy ·
I was wondering what the best Windows Operationg System would be to run on a system that is for home use, including games. Including everything from windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, XP etc. Just generally the best overall. Thanks.

XP !!
Though XP needs more resources and has a few other tradeoffs, for a home use, thers nothing best than XP as of now! The best things is its more User-friendly, its really a Plug-n-PLay OS, and its current. New products that come in, might not have initial support for XP drivers at times, but there are many out there who help getting unusual drivers quite quickly.
My opinion for your case would be XP Home or Professional.
Best Luck.

Depends on what you want to play, new games XP, older games 98, older still DOS 6.22. Only problems is as you go backwards drivers are harder to come by since MS no longer supports anything 98 or older everyone is moving forward as well.

Overall, I'd have to say Microsoft's best OS to date is XP. It may not run *everything*, but is is fast, reliable and appealing to the eye. For "office apps", 2000 is solid. For just games and fun, 98SE is good. XP offers the benefits of both (mostly).

Good luck!

Best Overall = WinXP
Games = WinXP
Office apps/tools = Win2000
Programming = Win2000

If you have an older app that will not work on the newer OSes, then use Win98SE. I do not recommend Win95, 98 (first edition), ME, etc. ; just Win98SE, WinXP or Win2000.

For those who need to swap OSes (linux is also an option), then purchase hdd drawers (like $25 for the drawer case and drawer and $12 for the drawer itself) and set them up the same as you would for an internal drive.
