Yes, startups have become the standard for tech companies. But what if you are not an entrepreneur yourself? I work in a small firm and in order to grow management is pushing this “everyone helps in sales” idea, and passes out articles from Forbes or about the growth in inside sales (https://www.lusha.co/resources/lead-gen/five-reasons-inside-sales-will-replace-outside-sales-2020) and has sales oriented team meetings. I don’t feel comfortable with sales, or people (why do you think I became a tech, right?) No connection to our actual jobs yet, but that might come next. How would you feel if you were asked to be more active in selling your company’s product if that was not why you were hired?
