CGA (olor Graphics Adapter)also known as RGB (Red Green Blue)was the first color monitor for IBMs It can display 16 colors.

EGA (enhanced Graphics Adapter was the next step. It had slightly higher resolution and the card was backwards compatable to RGB monitors.

VGA (Video Graphics Array) can display 256 colors. The connector has three rows of pins and is completely un-compatable with EGA and RGB monitors

Super VGA and Ultimate VGA have higher resolutions and are compatable with VGA.
