what is the problem here?

Have a problem when gaming. tottaly random crashes a few weeks back. problem seemed to be the atek missing file or error, updated my drivers but now there another problem when gaming. same ramdomness but the game lossses all sound and my cpu and memory usage skyrockets. minitool says its the audiodg.exe problem.

Then just now looking at the device manager i noticed that the device controller listed its from window. but at the sound manager from the taskbar says otherwise. pls help at least understand the problem

I have a few questions and then reports to check.

1. What is it? The PC in question is not known and sometimes you find the owner has some old Core2 machine which is going to not stand up to today’s gaming.

2. I want to know if it did this new. Did it? What changed?

3. Always want to see the Web SPECCY REPORT. This report is free and the web link to your report is in a format I can speed read to see if there’s something amiss. It also answers a lot of the question in question 1.

4. EXACT ERROR MESSAGES or it didn’t happen. While sometimes it doesn’t matter, the exact error message can sometimes lead to a fix. I think it’s worth writing that questions 1 to 3 must be dealt with.

5. Items SPECCY won’t tell us. Make, model, age of components like the power supply.

i did a full re install of windows then updated the audio drivers, then i updated windows, same problem started to happen. no reset but a total loss of sound. how do i add a text file to show the report from minitoolbox?
i will install speecy and do as u say but the problem persists.

1. The BIOS is out of date. Read https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards-Components/Motherboards/All-series/MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO/HelpDesk_BIOS/

2. The GPU is one that will demand a good fresh well sized PSU. The PSU is an unknown here. Tell us how old, make and model.

3. I’ve yet to find any Minitool information useful.

The app its minitoolbox, not minitool. Ik the mboard is old and so its the bios ( from 2015 it seems. But the lastest for that board is from 2017) and never had a problem prior to a month ago. The psu is old. Like really old. Even from a dead company: ocz wich manufactued drmm back in the day. But its a 850w gold certified psu. And never had a problems before. Same as the bios. The bios is a hard topic for me. I’m scared of upgrading and if there’s an error I will bick mi mb. And I live in argentina. Prices here for a mb with ddr4 pci4 and 7.1 sound Chanel board are sky high.

The BIOS was updated in 2018?

As for the error. At first it was atek.exe and the module with the error was a kernel.dll. then after updating windows 10 was audiodg.exe. I’ve since installed the updates for windows and reinstalled the latest audio drivers from Realtek from asus mb page. A recent one I might add. From 2021 a month ago. That seems to be a hot fix for a windows update a month or so ago that screwed the audio. I’ve had not time to test it yet to see if the driver upgrade solution fix the problem.

Again, you learn to not use Microsoft’s update driver but do updates the way noted at Reddit, here and almost everywhere.

Microsoft can’t handle driver updates for millions of different PCs.

At this point I have to write that misspellings on ATEK and such can hurt our progress. Because it’s computers, we have to be exact.

-> Because Microsoft is known to update a driver behind your back you MUST DISABLE THAT!!! In short:

1. Disable Microsoft driver updates (google that if you don’t know how.)
2. Follow the path/method noted in my last link about this.
3. Be sure the driver you use is from the maker and for your board.

If this still fails, disable onboard sound and go get a sound card.

I can’t tell if you completed the BIOS update, the disable of Microsoft’s driver update, the removal of the sound driver and install from the maker’s motherboard web site.

If you can’t do all that, find someone that can do this because all that I have for you after this is to disable the onboard audio and try using the monitor speakers over HDMI.

So far I’ve just unninstalled the audio drivers. After that if the problems persist I will try to update the bios ( wich im scared to do). Sorry I can’t give you all the details or the steps I’m taking. I’m trying but mi time is not much to troubleshoot the pc. BTW. There’s another aplicatttion pop up error I’m seeing often with the event logs. Around the same time that the problem generates. Its an acpi5 error. Really thx for your time.

It’s the Realtek HD audio manager for the board. In some Windows 10
cases, this occurs too. Generally Windows 7 SP1 was bound to this error.
Try Solving With these steps :-
– Go into the devices, uninstall and delete the current Relatek HD audio
drivers.
– Download the new Realtek drivers for your setup and then install them.

That should fix the problem being faced.
