Depends on what if anything you have done to it

by OH Smeg In reply to what is the problem with ...

If for instance you have tried to Root it you have most likely so severely damaged the OS that it no longer boots or maybe even ruined the Circuit Board.

If you have dropped it or spilled any liquid over it the same applies.

However if nothing has happened to it and it's just stopped working you should contact the provider and get them to fix it.

When it stopped was a Update applied?

It's not unknown for a OS update to Brick a Phone but even if that wasn't the issue you still need to contact it's maker for a resolution here.

Col did you really just state that rooting a phone will ruin the circuit board? That is the most ridiculous statement I've ever read. You either are unqualified to be answering questions or you are an angry cell phone network executive that wants people to pay for services included in the core android ROMs and are using fear as a tactic to make money. HTC even provides unlock codes for newer phones.. there is NOTHING wrong with rooting an Android. It's open source and you will never short out hardware by changing software.

Now to the person with the problem... you are using the very first Android ever. So if you rooted it then you need to assume the risk in doing so. If you didn't, google factory reset for G1 or Dream. My bigger surprise is your battery still works for longer than 15 minutes. Consider upgrading phones, that's a dinosaur now which can't run most apps on the market.

No I didn't say that Rooting the thing will ruin the circuit board but I did say that things like Liquid will.

It is however possible if you attack the Rooting Procedure incorrectly you damage the Code in the ROM Chip and as these are not replaceable it is effectively the same thing as damaging the CB. After all it stops working and isn't possible to make it work again without some very expensive Soldering Equipment that can be used with Surface Mount Electronics.

I've seen a few phones that are Bricks because the ROM Chip was screwed so badly.
