what is this file ?

when I boot up my computer it loads up windows then freezes for about 10 - 15 seconds then displays the msg that the 3cmlnkw.exe file is missing . this happens every time that i boot up , what is this file and how do I fix the problem.

Just a guess,

Do you have a 3com brand NIC in your system?
Or, are you connected to a network with 3com brand components?

If so, shut down the PC, and remove the NIC form it's slot.
Without the NIC in place, you should be able to boot.

Check the folder with the 3com driver or network programs for the file. If you find it, make sure that the shortcuts in the startup folder point to the correct folder.
(You may need to re-install the driver for the NIC.)

3CMLNKW.exe is actually a 3com modem file which resides in c:\windows\system.

If you're not using a 3com cable modem, check MSConfig for any entries and delete the modem. Otherwise reinstall the modem software.
