What is wrong with my pc???

By therukiss420 ·
I have an Athlon 2000 XP, with a 64mb Nvidia video card, 120gb harddrive, 256mb of ram, running Windows XP. I recently put a DVD drive in my computer. I am using PowerDVD to watch my DVD videos. After about 15 minutes of play, the player suddenly stops. Now, I can resume from where the player stopped, but it only goes for about another 15-20 minutes. The longest it has played is around 45 minutes. I know I have the correct drivers for my video card, and the DVD rom. It does this on all of my DVD's. I have also tried using windows media player 9 to play DVD's, but had the same result. Do you know of anything I could be missing that would cause this problem? I have checked into the DVD player having problems with dual-layer discs, but that checked out fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My best suggestion would be to try a different DVD drive.

Next, would be more RAM.
For XP, I generally recommend installing as much RAM as you can afford.

One thing you can do (with XP Pro anyhow) is to run the Performance Monitor and see if you are maxing out any resources.

The Performance Monitor can be Found under Administrative tools.

The problem was that my DVD drive was set as the slave on the secondary IDE. I have a CD burner as well, and had the burner set as the master, on the same IDE. Switched the two around, and no more problems. Thank you for your fast responce though. Thanks.

turn off your screen saver if you have one on and check your power options.

As the other said add more ram, clean your computer. I use Adaware, Spybot and window washer. Have you installed any service packs and have you checked for updates for your DVD player? If your computer or DVD player becomes to hot it will stop or slow down things. Are you running this on a laptop if so are you using your power adapter or just the battery?
