I’ve been spending a lot of time learning about enterprise networking over the past few months, and one question keeps coming to mind.
When building or upgrading a business network, do you think success depends more on the hardware itself, or on the way the network is designed?
I’ve noticed that many people focus on buying the latest routers, switches, or Wi-Fi access points, but experienced network engineers often emphasize planning, VLAN design, proper switching, PoE requirements, redundancy, and future scalability.
I’ve been comparing solutions from different vendors, including Ubiquiti, MikroTik, Cisco, and TP-Link. Rather than trying to decide which brand is “best,” I’m more interested in understanding which platform works best for different environments and budgets.
For those who manage business networks, what has been your experience?
Do you prioritize hardware quality?
Network design?
Ease of management?
Long-term reliability?
