Here’s a general question based on my current upgrading of my home computer, because right now I don’t have the will to spend the money (or time) building/ordering a fully new computer.
I upgraded my Dell PIII-450 to a PIII-750 w/ 256 megs of RAM. I threw in a GeForce 2 32mb Video Card and I did this all for roughly $300 spread out over a few months.
I know a friend who can get me an incredible deal on Windows ME or Windows 2000 (he can also get me Linux with full app suites for *extremely* less than Red Hat sells the same software for).
Anyway…right now the system is running Windows 98 SE. Is there any value, advantage or otherwise for me changing my os over to Win ME or Win 2000? keep in mind I’m not all Microsoft and againstLinux, but Linux is not a good choice to consider since this is my hobby machine – 80% of its use is to run games. We all know Linux is not exactly the best choice for hardware support or games at the moment.
So let me know what you think.
Please don’t turn this into a war here…I don’t particulary care one way or the other for Windows or Linux in this case – its just be reasonable I need an OS that runs games and supports my sound card, cd rom and my Ge Force 2…plus most games use ActiveX – I doubt Linux supports ActiveX?
Anyway thanks in advance.
