What software do you use for tracking billable hours and creating invoices?

Hello.

This is a question for all the independent consultants, contractors, and freelancers out there. What software do you use for tracking billable hours and creating invoices?

My situation is that I am starting to do some freelance consulting again (in addition to my regular job). I do web and software development on a PC (running Windows XP) and I have already created an Excel spreadsheet for tracking billable hours, but have been looking into getting some simple software package for tracking hours and expenses and for generating invoices for clients. As an individual, I do not need anything as sophisticated as a larger consulting agency might use, but there are still dozens if not hundreds of programs out there to evaluate. So I am hoping to get some feedback on what is good or bad.

My key questions are:
What billing software do you use now?
What have you used in the past?
What did you like or dislike about it?
What features did you find necessary?
What are the best nice-to-have features?

While I am willing to pay for a proprietary product, I would be especially glad to find one that is open source. Anyone know of such a thing?

Thanks, and I hope the answers help many people here.
