What’s Prob ???

I hv installed Oracle 8i on Winnt 4.0 and on the same hv installed Developer 2000 (Ver 5). It was running very good and contains a lot of database of a Sr. Sec. School.
But yesterday, When I tried to connect the message appeared … ‘ora-01043: Shutdown or Initialization in progress of Oracle’… but all the services are running … I wait for being started… I tried svrmgrl.exe to for startup.. but still problem is there.
Can anybody give me right solutions ..
