What's the correct way to embed an .flv file?

By mnhugos ·
I have an .flv file which I want to embed within an html file. I've copied/pasted the object/embed code many times and from many different places, but with no luck. It's probably something very simple, but I don't know what variable I'm getting wrong.
The code I've copied/pasted is:

<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"
id="myMovieName">
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="www.artisanalcheese.com/video/nutrition_04.flv">
<PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>
<PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF>
<EMBED href="/support/flash/ts/documents/myFlashMovie.swf"
quality=high
bgcolor=#FFFFFF
NAME="www.artisanalcheese.com/video/nutrition_04.flv"
ALIGN=""
TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash"
PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer">
</EMBED>
</OBJECT>

I have so many questions: Is the version number wrong, since version 10 is out now? Do I need a copy of the player on my own server, or will it grab and download from adobe server? If the width & height dimensions aren't right, will it thwart playing of the video? Every example I've found uses a .swf extension...do I need that instead of .flv? What is the href parameter in the embed...the flash player, or my movie?

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

It should look something like this.

by seanferd In reply to What's the correct way to ...

<code>

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rCietaPQBE4&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rCietaPQBE4&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

</code>

[edit: <i>Something</i> like that. Some of the code seems to get stripped out by the forum, even though it is still there if I edit this post. But it is still working code.]
