By ideaddict ·
I am using windows xp and recently got a problem which is whenever i try to import something from freehand or anyother software that program stuck and cant closed by any means even not by task manager. Some programs also stop working like I.E., Outlook, etc. System restore has been turned off & unable to turn on now. Everything messed up & i cant figure out that whats wrong. Can anyone help me or suggest me what to do?

do system restore. To close a program faster, go to processes in task manager instead of applications. Find the apropriate process and hit del+ent.

You are most likely infected by a virus, spyware or malware.

Start here http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx and then do a search within TR on removing spyware.

You can scan the hard drive with an anti-virus application like Symantec, McAfee, F-Secure, AVG.

You should also download an anti-spyware product and scan the system for malware. Links to trustworthy anti-spyware applications are available from http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy.
I have found Spybot Search & Destroy to be effective.

Also, HijackThis from http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/merijn/HijackThis.exe is useful in particular cases of malware taking over the PC.

Just a bit more here. When you have your AV and Spy Ware products installed and fully updated reboot and press the F* key as the unit starts and chose Safe Mode.

Just the Plain Safe Mode with nothing extra as you only want the minimum number of drivers running and then run the Spy Ware Scans and AV Scans. Spy Bot S&amp does it's own system restore so if anything gets mucked up you can return to a previous installation of the Registry so that would be my first choice to Scan with.

I would also download Lavasoft AdAware from

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

I tend to use both as what one misses the other seems to pickup.
