When does your opportunity become your responsibility?

Years ago I was handed many opportunities in IT. I took everyone and
ran as much as I could with each. Time went by and those
“opportunities” became my “responsibilit”. “This is great!”, or so I
thought. These opporunities did pave the way to where I’m at now.
However, I spent years taking on a higher role and larger duties with no
pay increase and a nothing title.

I’m now seeing this type of situation some to me again. This time I
wonder, when does your opportunity become your responsibility? More
importantly when it becomes your responsibility, how do you take
action to protect your best interests without harming productivity?
