When I open my computer.

By csdladorep ·
This is unusual for about a week now when I go to my computer and double click any of the drive icons the search results window opens thought maybe a virus or trojan but I am not finding one. I can view the drive contents if I right click and select explore. I checked in folder options and did not see any kind of settings there. I am running XP PRO SP2 I wan't to get it back to double opens win explorer. Any ideas are appriciated.

Hi,

1. Try deleting all Temp files and Temporary Internet files for each user on the system.

2. Go to Start > Run and type: cmd.exe. At the prompt type, "chkdsk /f" sans quotes. The utility will tell you that the drive is locked and then ask do you wish to schedule a reboot: type Y, hit Enter, and close out of the command shell. Now reboot your computer and let Windows do the rest.

3. If that doesn't work then try scanning your system with the System File Checker.

Go to Start > Run and type this exactly as you see it: sfc /scannow

Note that you will need the original installation media when prompted for it and that this is a drastic, last ditch effort as it will reinstall all damaged files if it finds any.

Hope this helps.

sounds like spyware? to cure it, download, install and update Ad Aware SE Personal from www.lavasoftusa.com
then turn off System Restore and reboot in Safe Mode. scan with ad-aware and delete everything it finds. turn system restore back on.
reboot normally and surf the web for a few minutes. then scan with ad aware again. if it has a persistent infection, post what it is finding on your second scan...

Hi

As well as the suggestions above, try using a registry checker. This will ensure that all entries in the registry (and those which tell explorer what to do), are correct.

Good luck

Hi,

Also check that the settings for your mouse haven't gone to single click. Go to Windows explorer, TOOLS, Folder Options, Custom Settings, Check that double click is selected.
