When should annual Hardware & Maintenance contracts begin?

By KGIT ·
We are just kicking-off a large project which will deploy over $3M worth of new hardware and software licenses. The project will take 6 months to implement. Should we expect the clock to start ticking against the manufacturers? warranty/maintenance contracts when we receive the HW & SW at the beginning of the project ? or can we ask the manufacturers to start this after the project goes into production?

that the clock starts ticking as soon as you order for hardware, irrespective of whether you have received their product. Software generally starts counting down when you activate the installation if this step is necessary, otherwise the order date is also used.

I'm also a bit curious - even if you are not in production, you are still using/configuring their hardware and software, are you not? I have received more than one server dead out of the box, or at least with bad parts. I've also needed software support prior to production in order to get the product into production.

The vendor is going to take the position that they have protected your purchase from the beginning and start the warranties and maintenance contracts accordingly.
