where are they

By larryc ·
I am running W2K Adv Server with ZA Pro, the problem is that none of the w98 clients can see the server or shares nor can the server see them. Pinging between each works fine but internet connection sharing does not work either even though it did aweek ago.

Anyone have any idea where to look aside from reinstalling the server software.

Thanks

Larry

Try enabling the file and printer sharing options on your computers.

In active directory / accounts and computers:
Verify that the computers have an account and also the users have an account on the server.
also enable the file and printer sharing. Are you running tcp/ip and that server is the dhcp server? check to see what ip's and dns/wins addresses are given out, or hard set.
Are the 98 machines logging into the correct domain for the network loggin screen? you can check in the network properities on the 98 machines under microsoft networking client.
also the tcp/ip properities on the 98 machine should really be looked at, make sure wins and dns are enable with the correct address.

There is also a dsclient that can be installed on the Win9x machines that enables the active directory. It is located in the client folder on the cd. Plenty of info is available about it on the Microsoft web site. Hope this helps.

Zone Alarm Pro 1.0 Has some serious issues with allowing NetBIOS traffic (What Share traffic is transmitted on) through the firewall, it seems to set up a semi-perminant rule that prevents NetBIOS traffic because it is percieved as a possible DOS (Denial of Service) attack. I have yet to find a workaround for it, but I would recomend migrating to Norton Personal Firewall 2000. I have yet to have any issues with it in the area of NetBIOS.

Thanks I have had nothing but trouble since I installed first black ice defender, removed it and installed zonealarm pro. I think I will do as you say and get the Norton Personal Firewall 2000.
