Where can I get a fiber optics Broad Radio in the licence free band?

By odiegbele ·
My company has a fiber optics network in two cites but now want to extend service to a third city without fiber network at the moment. We need an urgent solution so streamline as to have the same speed and throughput as fiber optics. The distance between sites is 5Km. Can any one out there advice me or direct me on where to get a licence exempt Broadband radio that has the same features as an optical fiber?

No such animal. You might get "good enough" wireless throughput.

"License free".

Licensing rather depends on where you are. Nigeria? Ask closer to home. Most people at this site will have no idea.

Thanks for your reply, I live in Nigeria. Are you very sure that there is no such radio?

Radio cannot match fiber optics - neither can copper wire.

You can probably find radio that will do the job, though. It's just that physical laws plus how IP networking works precludes anything being as fast as fiber optics. This doesn't mean you can't find radio with transmission speed and capacity to do the job.

As to the "license-free band", I have no idea what this spectrum would be in Nigeria. You probably want to check with equipment vendors in Nigeria.

Have a look at this:

I'm not sure whether this applies to wireless WAN, specifically.

Any restrictions are probably lessened for highly directional radio, which seems to be what you need, since you are doing point-to-point and not broadcasting.

You may want to check out documents provided by whatever agency it is of the Nigerian government which regulates the radio spectrum. Networking consultants would certainly have this information, as well as information on the available equipment.

I wish you good luck in finding a solution.
